Garwood Psychology

For referrers

A thoughtful referral depends on clarity about fit and boundaries.

This page is for HR advisers, recruiters, occupational health practitioners, psychiatrists, fellow coaches and professional peers considering whether my work may be suitable.

Who may be a fit

Experienced professionals or leaders facing work identity, career transition, leadership complexity or a workplace neurodiversity question where psychologically informed coaching may be suitable.

What a referral can say

“Laura Garwood is a Chartered Coaching Psychologist and Accredited Business Psychologist who works one-to-one with leaders and professionals on work identity, transition and complexity.”

What happens next

I receive the enquiry and, where appropriate, hold an initial 20–30 minute thinking conversation. I assess fit, make a defined proposal if the work is suitable, or suggest another route. The conversation is not a sales pitch.

Professional standing and boundaries

Confidentiality is central. Where an organisation funds the work, contracting is handled separately and clearly. A referrer does not automatically receive updates about the person referred.

Organisation-sponsored coaching

Three people, one clear agreement

Before substantive coaching begins, the sponsor, coachee and I agree the purpose of the work, each person’s role, practical arrangements, review points and the limits of confidentiality. The coachee should not have to guess what may be reported back.

Sponsor

Contributes the organisational context and agrees the purpose, practical arrangements and any proportionate review points. The sponsor does not receive a running account of sessions.

Coachee

Has a private space to think and is involved in agreeing what, if anything, is shared at a review. Personal reflections and session content are not routinely disclosed.

Practitioner

Holds the boundaries, keeps the purpose and scope visible, and raises any limits to confidentiality at the outset rather than leaving them implicit.

Any shared progress conversation is agreed in advance and normally focuses on the purpose of the engagement, not the private content of sessions. Safeguarding, legal or professional limits are explained as part of the initial contract.
